A common question I get quite often is what if my spikes or blooms grow up to or touch the LEDs?  Will that harm my flowers or buds?  The safe answer is always don't let them, but in reality I always let mine touch or get right up to my LEDs. 

I allow this for all of my LEDs except the Photon Rays, because the Photon Rays are the warmest of my LEDs at around 100 degrees Fahrenheit.  The rest of my LEDs are much cooler than that and I have found it does not bother the spikes or the flowers if they are near or even touching the LEDs. 

If the spikes want to grow past the LEDs that is also fine.  The spikes can continue on past the LEDs and be fine.  Since photosynthesis is taking place mostly in the leaves we are only concerned about the distance from the bottom of the LEDs to the mass of the leaves of the plant that is receiving the light.

The picture here shows just how close these flowers are to the LEDs.  Many are within 1" of the LEDs.  This phal has been in this same spot for more than 1 year growing.  In fact this phal is flowering from 2 separate spikes from last year.  They are side-branches from last years old spikes.  I cut off the old flowers last year and left this.  If you look at the picture closely you will see the side branching.  So I was able to get 3 new spikes this year from 2 of last years old spikes.
